New Orleans Levees

I have been to New Orleans many times and never paid much attention to the way it was protected by levees along the Mississippi river and Lake Pontchartrain. I located this information at the New York Times and as you can see the levees are everywhere. It amazes me that the levees have protected New Orleans as long as they have.
