Man honored for rescuing officer

The rescuer, who is an airport security employee, assisted the police officer, who was being assaulted.

A man who came to the aid of a police officer who was being attacked was honored Wednesday with a Citizen Appreciation Award.

SSgt KMichael Kannard, an employee of the Transportation Security Administration, was driving Feb. 20 on Virgin Street just west of Oklahoma 11 when he saw Officer Carl Small on the ground being attacked.

Police said a 6-foot-4-inch, 230-pound man had knocked the officer to the ground when he responded to a vandalism call.

When Small fell, he struck his head on the pavement. The man then repeatedly kicked the officer in the head with his steel-toed boots, police said.

The assault continued until Kannard stopped to help.

Small said that “the guy would have killed me if it hadn’t been for that TSA guy,” according to a police statement.

Cpl. R.T. Jones nominated Kannard. He said, “The fact that Michael Kannard stopped to come to Officer Small’s assistance, at great personal risk, when he was neither legally nor morally bound to do so, reflects great credit upon himself and the Transportation Security Administration and marks him as a courageous, exceptional citizen who is a credit to his community.”

Corey Darvell Crisp, a rapist, was arrested and charged with assault and battery on a police officer, failure to register as a sex offender, malicious injury to property and obstructing an officer. He had been convicted of second-degree rape in 2004 and received a five-year suspended sentence, Tulsa County court records show.

That just tells me I raised him with the right set of values… and also make me one proud daddy…

One thing about the article is they don’t say what he did to stop the assault, but I know he has a CC license and always carries, so he probably drew down on the guy…

One note, he may be going to Iraq if they decide to activate the 45th Inf Bgd of the Oklahoma National Guard, we should know soon.
