All that immense destructive power…when viewed from a great enough distance, it is almost balletic in its terrifying beauty.

We lived in Channelview at the time Ike hit, we were gonna stay-but decided to leave. My husband woke me up the Thursday before it hit and said “we are leaving, its headed right for us” !!!! I just burst out crying, as i have never experienced a hurricane before. So, like the Beverly Hillbillies, we loaded up our truck and car and headed to Waco. We took all of our clothes and all of our family pictures and our computer. My family pics are my prized possession. Pictures cannot be replaced. Nor can our lives…….. no, we didnt pay any bills that week and ran out of money and got behind on our bills—-but with the help of family–we did just fine. As it was—2 trees were pulled up out of the ground in our yard—one was huge!!–it fell away from our home—-but if it had fallen on our home—we could’ve been killed. So, this was in Channelview—and i cannot understand why anyone would not leave, IF AT ALL POSSIBLE–living right on the coast given the warnings of how huge this storm was and how bad the storm surge was going to be. It is very sad———–that people lost their lives and people are still needing help and cant get it——-
