remove black background

Friday, October 17th, 2008

If you are like me , old and a little vision impaired , it s hard to read some blogs where people have a dark background and some funky colored text. While browsing the blogoshere I came across this tip that changes the background and text colors to black on white with one click on your browser. It is a temporary fix for the web site only and when you leave for another site every thing reverts back to normal.

This is the White Background link to add.

For all Firefox:
Just drag the “White Background” link to your “Bookmarks Toolbar“, or “right Click” and select “Bookmark this Link” ans select your “Bookmarks Toolbar“.

For IE7/IE6:
“Right Click” and select “Add to Favorites” and when you do that you will see this message:.
Now answer “Yes” and then Select Create in “Links” Folder.

In your browser you should see “White Background” option on your link bar.
If not recheck where you added it and move it if necessary or give it another shot.

Now after adding Change Background lets go to Ericas Blog (Will open in a new Window) and give it a try..

blogging tip #12

Monday, June 9th, 2008

On some blogs I see text jammed up against a photo and this post will show how to add white space between text and photo.

no space:
Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetuer adipiscing elit. Sed vitae dui rutrum leo auctor sagittis. Aliquam convallis, mi sed viverra porttitor, magna orci bibendum lectus, quis facilisis lorem leo a neque. Suspendisse pretium tellus sit amet sem. Nam odio. Vestibulum eget ligula. Curabitur imperdiet velit ut sem. Sed nunc lacus, luctus id, ullamcorper in, volutpat ac, lacus. Nunc purus. Ut ultrices. Sed scelerisque nibh sed risus. Morbi nisi. Ut viverra vulputate ante. Fusce congue quam at dolor. Fusce a erat. Mauris porta auctor est. Ut dignissim augue vitae dui fermentum adipiscing. Phasellus eget libero. Nam sit amet purus nec lacus viverra laoreet. Fusce accumsan, libero quis consequat pretium, sapien ipsum semper nulla, vitae imperdiet orci velit id massa.

text size in Firefox

Wednesday, April 16th, 2008

Sparrow was commenting about the text size in her new install of Firefox.

To over come this problem is done by holding down the “Ctrl” key and then pressing the plus sign “+” which enlarges the text, to make text smaller use the “-” (minus) key.

A faster and easier way is to go here for No Squint ,a plugin to change text in Firefox

Install version 1.01. NOTE: ver 101 is not for Firefox 3.0
After installation you will have to restart Firefox then you should see a Blue A at the bottom right of Firefox.

Step 2: Click on “View, Toolbars, Customize which will open a small box showing icons you can drag to the toolbar.
Look for the blue A and drag it close to the area where you type in a web address, or anywhere you feel comfortable.

Now when you get to a site where the text is small click on the Big A to enlarge , also the small A reduces the text size.

If you think that the web is slow sometimes then check how fast you can go by clicking on the “Speakeasy” Speed Test link at the bottom of the right column.

When I ran these tests the other day I thought the net looked like IH 45 going north from Houston during Hurricane Rita and was surprised to see the results.

I have cable and am supposed to have 4mb download with 400 Kbps uploads, as you can see only one test exceeded the download rate and none met the upload rate. If you call tech support they will tell you that conditions of the net determine your speeds and what you pay for is if you are the only one using the internet. Of course this beats the heck out of dial up.

From Web Site:
We want you to know that your speed on our network will be managed for the best possible experience. The choices above are not speed guarantees, but rather best estimates of what you can usually expect given the range of factors that may affect speed. Cable modem service is the best way to have an always-on connection for Internet service at your home.

While cruising along the internet highway in search of a little motivation to improve my blogging technique I believe I have found the answer, to wit these quotes:

1st:
And, by the way, I’ve been drinking tonight so you’ll forigve me if I’m rambling. Which I am. I tend to do that when I drink. Maybe if I drank and blogged all the time this blog would be more interesting. Note to self: drink and blog more often.

2nd:
Hi. I am drunk.

Nope. I am fucking blasted. I jus thought you should know, and adjust yourselves accordingly.

I will pursue this method to see if there is any improvement in this feeble excuse for a blog…

Stay tuned…..

Want to know where a visitor is located?.

If you use Sitemeter, copy the Lat/Long : 38.65, -90.5334 from the visitors info and then goto Google Maps and paste in the Lat/Long instead of an address and viola there it is…

Some ISPs don’t handle the Lat/Long very well and you can wonder what is the location doing in a field somewhere.
Most will get you close but AOL assigns 38, -97 to all their users so it wont work. Comcast, Road Runner, Cableone, and other Broadband Cable services get it fairly close.

Does it make you paranoid knowing that someone can get that close to you?
Looks like this person is from the St Louis area…

Sleep well folks, you are in no danger, yet….

This is how law enforcement can find where hackers, porn dealers, and those vicious down loaders of copyrighted music get caught.

Go read this if you use Blogrolling and only had the free service…

Great News: Blogrolling is now completely free

by Ross on Sat 26 Aug 2006 04:32 PM EDT | Permanent Link

Its taken me a bit to get this implemented, but we’re pleased to announce that Blogrolling is now completely free. All of the features that were previously reserved for Blogrolling Gold customers are now available to all Blogrolling customers. The plan is to reintroduce a pay option in the near future, but for now, the amount of stuff that we’re offering Gold users simply isn’t enough to request that you keep paying us your good money for our services.

When we do reintroduce the pay option in the future, anyone who ever upgraded to Gold status will automatically get credit for their existing payment. So until then, enjoy the new features!
