I see that some have made it to the BlownStar Blogmeet Down By The River or should be arriving today… I might have gone but I made my plans way back in Feb when I booked my flight before the fuel costs hit the price of tickets…

had fun with the boys even thought they are both a little hyper-active at times… wasted $30 bucks taking them to see Kung-Fu Panda, a new low in cartoon movie making…

we were going to go fishing but all the lakes around here have extremely high water levels and that makes the fishing suck…

it will be good to get back home and sleep in my own bed…

The 12-year-old Omaha boy on Saturday afternoon took a step off the riverbank into the Platte River, yards from the family’s cabin near North Bend, Neb.

The Platte, swollen by recent rains, was deeper and faster-moving than Tony was expecting. As soon as he hit the water, he was in literally over his head.

Tony’s mother, Diane Bailey, estimated that the river was 7 to 8 feet deep at that point.

“Usually, when it’s dry, it’s up to your knees — or waist, at the highest,” where Tony walked in, Bailey said Monday. “He’s done it a thousand other times.”

Tony, who will be a seventh-grader at McMillan Magnet Center in the fall, tried to swim, but the current was too strong.

“I thought I was going to die because it was so deep,” he said.

Bailey, her two other children, and her brother and sister all were sitting at a picnic table about 20 feet from the water. But as Tony yelled for help, no one heard his cries — except Jake, the family’s 4-year-old black Labrador retriever.

The dog ran to the riverbank, jumped in and swam toward Tony.

The rest of the family ran to the riverbank, Bailey said, and watched as the dog, who weighs about 85 pounds, swam downstream of Tony, who weighs about 150 pounds, then paddled back upstream toward him. Tony then put his arms around the dog’s neck, and Jake pulled him toward shore.

Juneteenth, also known as Freedom Day or Emancipation Day, is an annual holiday or holiday observance in 26 states of the United States. Celebrated on June 19, it commemorates the announcement of the abolition of slavery in Texas. The holiday originated in Galveston, Texas; for more than a century, the state of Texas was the primary home of Juneteenth celebrations.

Though the Emancipation Proclamation had been issued on September 22, 1862, with an effective date of January 1, 1863, it had little immediate effect on most slaves’ day-to-day lives, particularly in Texas, which was almost entirely under Confederate control. Juneteenth commemorates June 19, 1865, the day Union General Gordon Granger and 2,000 federal troops arrived on Galveston Island to take possession of the state and enforce the emancipation of its slaves. Legend has it while standing on the balcony of Galveston’s Ashton Villa, Granger read the contents of “General Order No. 3”

The people of Texas are informed that, in accordance with a proclamation from the Executive of the United States, all slaves are free. This involves an absolute equality of personal rights and rights of property between former masters and slaves, and the connection heretofore existing between them becomes that between employer and hired labor. The freedmen are advised to remain quietly at their present homes and work for wages. They are informed that they will not be allowed to collect at military posts and that they will not be supported in idleness either there or elsewhere.

to me it looks like that they forgot the last sentence in General Order No.3, but our democrits decided that they deserved free money , housing and all the other perks the A-A get today…

He went on, and after awhile he was going to cross the road. Once again the voice shouted, “Stop! Stand still! If you take one more step a car will run over you and you will die.” The man did as he was instructed, just as a car came careening around the corner, barely missing him.

“Where are you?” the man asked. “Who are you?”

“I am your guardian angel,” the voice answered.

“Oh yeah?” the man asked. “And where the hell were you when I got married?”

The doctor says to the woman, “I know what we’ll do. After I’ve operated on the priest, I’ll give the baby to him and tell him it was a miracle.”

“Do you think it will work?” she asks.

“It’s worth a try,” he says. So, the doctor delivers the baby and then operates on the priest.

After the operation, he says to the priest, “Father, you’re not going to believe this.”

“What?” asks the priest, “What happened?”

“You gave birth to a child!”

“But that’s impossible!” says the priest.

“I just did the operation,” insists the doctor, “It’s a miracle! Here’s your baby.”

About 15 years go by, and the priest realizes he must tell his son the truth. One day, he sits the boy down and says, “Son, I have something to tell you. I’m not your father.”

The son says, “What do you mean you’re not my father?”

The priest replies, “I am your mother. The archbishop is your father.”

Snake charmer uses rum remedy

Mr Zutt and his mates were returning from a pig-hunting and fishing trip near Musgrave Station.

“I squatted down … I reckon I must’ve nearly sat on his head,” he said.
“As soon as I felt it, I yelled.
“It really hurt.
“When it happened, I knew in the back of my mind it was a snake.
“I seen him coming out from between my legs.”
He said he tried to remain calm as he inspected the damage.
“He got me about halfway down,” he said. “I saw fang marks and a bit of blood come out.”
Mr Zutt saw the snake, which he said looked like an eastern brown, slither under rocks.
He alerted his mate and they drove to Lakeland to seek medical help.
His friend called triple-0 to advise authorities of the bite.
